Pop-Up Strike Camps for January 2020 in Toronto and York Regions

Camps

It’s official: elementary teachers will strike in Toronto and York Region on January 20, 2020 and January 21, 2020 for the TCDSB, barring any 11th-hour negotiations. For parents who work during school hours, this requires some last-minute planning.

If you are looking for a camp during the ETFO and OECTA strikes on Monday, January 20, 2020 or Tuesday, January 21, 2020 , we’ve rounded up all the full-day and half-day camps we’ve found thus far. Note that the City of Toronto will not have any camps to cover the strike.

In all cases, refunds will be given if the strike is averted.

York Region

Here are York Region camps we’re aware of during the YRDSB strike on January 20, 2020.

Electric Moon Theatre Company

For kids in Grades 1 through 7, Electric Moon Theatre Company is planning a full-day Strike Day Theatre Camp in collaboration with CharActors Theatre Troupe in Thornhill. This is a musical theatre camp! Also offered on Jan. 21. Cost: $65/day. Learn more/sign up.

McMichael Gallery

Hands-on work in the art studio is combined with gallery visits and outdoor hikes and games at special strike-day editions of the McMichael’s ArtVenture art camp on Monday and Tuesday. For ages 5–12. Cost: $35. Learn more/sign up.

Adventure Valley Day Camp

Adventure Valley Day Camp is offering a full-day Strike Camp for kids in JK–Grade 6 at its Thornhill location. The day will include fun, educational activities including art, cooking, music, dance, and outdoor play. Extended hours available. Cost: $75/ per day. Learn more/sign up.

Valour Martial Arts + Fitness Club

Valour Martial Arts + Fitness Club in Markham will run a strike camp on Tuesday, January 21. To learn more about their PA Day camps and register head to their website. Cost: $40 Learn more/sign up

ViBE Dance & Fitness Studio 

If you’ve got a dancer on your hands, ViBE Dance & Fitness Studio in Thornhill is offering Camp ViBE session on Monday. Cost: $60/day Learn more/sign up.

Earthbound Kids

This outdoor education centre in Stouffville will have 1-day camps on Monday and Tuesday (ages 4–12), with interactive learninga nd toudoor play. Cost: $75. Learn more/sign up.

These west end camps will cover the TDSB and TCDSB teachers’ strike on January 20, 2020.

The Maker Bean

Kids can get hands-on with a full-day project plus outdoor time at the Strike Day Tech Camp at the Bloorcourt maker space. Add on lunch, snacks, and after- or before care. Cost: $95/day. Learn more/sign up.

The ROM

A special full-day ROMKids Day Camp will be offered for ages 5–14. Explore the museum’s galleries with instructors, play games, and spend time outdoors (weather permitting). Extended care is available. Cost: $85. Learn more/sign up.

East End parents have several options for last-minute strike day camps on January 20!

Toronto Zoo

The Toronto Zoo is offering its Big Day Off PA day camp for ages 4–10.  Tour the zoo, get a behind-the-scenes encounter, and learn what the animals do during the winter season. Also offered on Jan. 21. Cost: $50 members, $60 non-members. Learn more/sign up.

Just For Fun

This Scarborough indoor playground will have a full-day Strike Day Camp on Monday and Tuesday, with arts and crafts, cooking, laser tag, movies, and access to the indoor playground for ages 4 and up. Extended care available. Cost: $65. Learn more/sign up.

Toronto North

These North Toronto strike camps may be a convenient option for parents either in Toronto and York region schools.

Toronto Athletic Camps (TAC Sports)

Full-day and half-day multi-sports camps are available for kids ages 4 to 12, with before and after care options available, at the Toronto Soccerplex in North York. Cost: Full-day $65, half-day $30. Learn more/sign up

Just Bounce Trampoline Club

Kids enjoy trampoline instruction, circus activities, arts and crafts, and indoor and outdoor games at this club’s North York location. For ages 4–15. Cost: $40. Learn more/sign up

Active Kids Zone

Active Kids Zone will be running a holiday camp program with lots of activities: crafts, ceramics, cooking, sports, games and playtime in the Fun Zone, with inflatables and climbers. Lunch and extended care available. Cost: $60. Learn more/sign up.

NTR Hockey School 

NTR in Richmond Hill will be holding full-day hockey and skating camps for players with or without hockey experience, ages 4–12. Kids can expect on-ice instruction, skating games, arts and crafts, and off-ice activities and games. Cost: $60. Learn more/sign up. 

Ontario Science Centre

Kids ages 5–12 can take part in a fun day of hands-on science activities at the Ontario Scienc Centre on January 21 and January 22. There is no extra cost for extended care. Cost: $70 members, $75 non-members. Learn more/sign up.

Elite Basketball Camps

Elite Basketball Camps is offering its Fun Days basketball camp on Monday, January 20 at its North York (Don Mills area) training centre. Contact them by phone or email for details. For ages 7–13. Cost: $90. Learn more. 

After-school care

If you already have your child in after-school care, check with them. Many before- and after-school care programs are opening up to take kids for the full day to try to alleviate the pressure put on parents due to the strike.
