123 Homeschool 4 Me • JK–Gr 12

This homeschool site hosts thousands of free worksheets, activity ideas, fun recipes, projects, book recommendations, and more.

All Kids Network • JK–Gr 8

With crafts, worksheets, activities, flashcards, organizers, sticker charts and more, kids will be occupied for weeks.

BBC Teach • JK–Gr 6

Educational video and audio resources and interactive lessons are available on the BBC’s site for learning.

Brain Power • Gr 1–12

Longtime education provider Brain Power is offering weekly online classes with professionally filmed and edited teacher videos, homework assignments, and one-on-one feedback for each student. Its Language Arts program is designed to improve reading, critical thinking, and communication skills.

Brainbox Games • JK–Gr 8

Brainbox Games has created a spelling app called Magic Spell that teaches phonic patterns, spelling rules and common words. Coming soon – Mathstronauts!

Capstone Interactive • JK–Gr 12

Capstone is a children’s publisher used by teachers and school libraries throughout North America. Temporarily, its 200+ interactive e-books are free for everyone to access. Titles include read-aloud books and interactive projects.

CBC Kids • Grades 1–6

Videos, games, activities, quizzes, health hints and more are available on CBC’s kid-centric website.

Dreamscape • Grades 2–8

Free literacy games and tutorials that combine strategy and imagination are available on this website and app.

Duolingo • all ages

Learn a language! Kids can keep up on their French, or learn a new language on this time away from school. Complete an interactive test for Duolingo to conform its lessons to your skill level.

Duolingo ABC – Learn to Read • ages 3–6

This free app helps young children learn to read with 300 different lessons, like assisted reading, decoding, and sight words. It also offers assisted reading and speech recognition.

Education.com • preschool–Grade 5

Printable worksheets, guided lessons, and online games to help kids improve their reading and writing skills are available on this US-based website. They also have interactive stories.

Fluency & Fitness • JK–Gr 2

A variety of interactive reading and math skill exercises like vowel patterns, rhyming, grammar, fractions, and addition and subtraction are available for younger children.

Fun Brain • JK–Gr 8

Kids can enjoy dozens of educational videos, games, and books, with special Math Zone and Playground sections for many grade levels.

Gale Kids InfoBits • all ages

Articles, biographies, pictures and audio clips on numerous topics in several categories ranging from animals, technology, and the arts to geography, literature, and social studies.

IXL Learning • JK–Gr 12

With hundreds of resources to practice a large selection of English language arts skills, kids may even be ahead of the class when they return to school.

Memrise • all ages

Memrise allows you to learn from over 20 languages at your level, with clips of native speakers filmed in their hometowns.

NFB Education • all ages

Mini-lessons, activities, Ocean School and educational films can all be found at the National Film Board’s educational website.

Scholastic Learn at Home • JK–Gr 9

This is an American site, but they do have a wealth of information and resources, allowing kids to watch videos, read articles, and take part in daily quests, keeping them engaged.

Scratch • Grades 3–11

From MIT, kids can create and program interactive stories, games and animations on this site and share them with others online. Scratch reaches out to parents, explaining to them how children can learn with the site and is free of charge.

Curio.ca • all ages

CBC’s educational streaming platform has waived its subscription fee in the current climate and offers programs, documentaries, audio content and archival material from CBC/Radio-Canada.

TVOkids Language • JK–Gr 3

Younger kids learn ABCs while older kids explore palindromes and double negatives through songs and silly games on TVOkids Language channel.

Online Tutoring

Ruth Rumack’s Learning Space • all grades

This Toronto-based learning centre offers one-to-one, personalized online tutoring in reading comprehension, written expression, and handwriting.

Smarty Pant Tutoring • all grades

Private, one-on-one tutoring is available from Smarty Pants online from ages 4 and up, in all subjects including reading and writing.

Teachers To Go • all grades

A Canada-wide organization with private tutoring, Teachers To Go is now offering online private and small-group tutoring. All tutors are certified teachers with experience teaching the grade and course.
