If you haven’t been roped in by the Calgary Stampede, we’re sure you will be by the wide variety of kids activities in “Cowtown”. Whether you’ve popped in for a city break, or are a local looking for some action, here are some of our favourite haunts, guaranteed to entertain everyone from tots to teens.

Calgary Zoo

Budding zoologists will want to dive into Penguin Plunge at the Calgary Zoo (Free with zoo admission: kids 3-12, $13; adults, $21). Four different species of tuxedoed birds join lions, tigers and giraffes at one of Canada’s top zoos.

TELUS Spark

Canada’s newest science centre in 25 years, TELUS Spark ignites the imaginations of all ages, with interactive exhibits, play areas and a dedicated toy building area.

Stanley Park

With a playground and picnic area (that include BBQ pits), you’ll be able spend an entire day around Stanley Park, an outdoor pool nestled next to the Elbow River.

Riley Park

Wee ones can safely splash about at Riley Park, where mature trees offer shaded picnic space around the large wading pool. And it’s free!

Sheraton Suites Calgary Eau Claire

Sweet Dreams can be found at the Sheraton Suites Calgary Eau Claire, located next door to the Eau Claire YMCA (read: babysitting!) and steps away from Prince’s Island Park.

Prince’s Island

At Prince’s Island Park, you find ample green space, a well equipped playground, and the award-winning River Café. This surprisingly family-friendly restaurant makes us feel at home with their creative twists on regional fare, colouring books and kid-friendly meals.

Shopping

And what’s a holiday without a little shopping? Southcentre Mall boasts a Disney Store, Crate & Barrel, and Restoration Hardware, while Chinook Centre has an indoor bowling alley, movie theatre, and Pottery Barn.

That’s just a sample of what Calgary has to offer. You can find more by browsing our Calgary directory for more parent resources and fun things to do.
