With so many neighbourhoods in the city, deciding where to reside really comes down to two things: taste and personal goals. Each neighbourhood has unique characteristics, so taste is a the primary deciding factor for most. However, personal goals are important too, and starting a family in a family-friendly neighbourhood is a definite search criteria for some.
We put together five family friendly neighbourhoods in the city that appeal to couples wanting to start a family or for those who have a family already.
1. North Toronto
North Toronto, otherwise known as midtown Toronto, is a prime area of Toronto fit for any type of home buyer but for families especially. Home buyers have access to an abundance of amenities and resources, all accessible by short walk or bike ride.
The Yonge & Eglinton community is a great example. Slowly developing into one of Toronto’s newest condominium hubs, residents of this community have access to the best schools (North Toronto Collegiate Institute, Northern Secondary School, etc); access to excellent facilities such as the North Toronto Memorial Community Centre & Eglinton Park; and every form of shopping that one can think of including groceries, electronics, plenty of restaurants, and even the movies.
Kids have access to play areas and good education while parents don’t need to go miles away to pick up things like daily groceries or other household needs.
2. Bayview Village
Bayview Village has often been called the second Yorkville because of its quieter, posh environment. Accessible by three subway stations and two exits on the 401, Bayview Village is a residential hot spot, with condominium builders dominating the southern part of the community.
The North part of Bayview Village is home to town homes and detached houses, in close proximity to a selection of great schools, parks, and quiet streets. On both ends of the community are convenient amenities. Bayview Village Shopping Centre provides an array of shopping options including a Loblaws and Indigo bookstore. On the other end of the community is an Ikea, Canadian Tire and the North York General Hospital.
Speaking of health, the community has a number of family clinics and doctor’s offices that are open early and late. On top of all of this, residents have access to a massive YMCA complex, multiple gas stations and ample green space. Kids can play while parents enjoy the comforts of this quiet, serene community.
3. High Park
“High” on the list for family neighbourhoods, High Park refers to the massive green space in the heart of West Toronto, and is a great outdoor space for children and adults. With access to a zoo, a museum, multiple activities throughout the year (even during the winter!) and beautiful spaces to ride a bike or walk, High Park is a staple venue for any family to visit. Living next to it would be simply brilliant.
The community offers much more too. With new condominium developments along Bloor Street West, residents will have easy access to the park, easy access (probably elevator access!) to shopping conveniences and be walking distance from existing transportation options including two TTC subway stations and a GO Station.
4. Rosedale
Rosedale is a highly sought-after family-friendly neighbourhood in Toronto. With its extravagant and spacious houses, and peaceful, safe environment, the neighbourhood is a perfect place for growing families who want the conveniences of living close to downtown Toronto, but still not too far north either.
With easy access to the TTC, this neighbourhood also boasts great schools, walking access to some of Toronto’s major amenities and a quiet living environment, perfect for those families who want a piece of comfortable living.
5. Deer Park
Deer Park is a hot neighbourhood just south of North Toronto. Home to many small businesses and corporate offices, this community has rapidly developed into a bustling neighbourhood with activity at all times of the day. It is home to many quality schools and residents of this community will have access to other schools in the city as well, per TDSB rules.
Additionally, Deer Park is home to a number of great parks and playgrounds, perfect for kids to play in during the summer months. Finally, with new condominium investments. in the region, community lifestyle is a big component of this neighbourhood.
