Have fun with your baby or child and get active at the same time! If you’re looking for fun and active things to do with your toddler or child, these classes have you covered.
The classes we’ve highlighted here provide real workouts for adults but can be done with baby or kids in tow. They’re often called “mommy-and-me” but dads and caregivers are often welcome. Some classes do cater to post-birth recovery specifically for moms, though, so do call ahead.
Cirque-ability: MommyAerial
A unique, high-flying class! At the MommyCirque classes at Cirque-ability, babies play while you learn circus and aerial skills—or get back into it, if you have experience. Circus skills classes are available for kids ages 2 and up as well.
Salsa Babies/Salsa Tots
Strap your wee one into a carrier and get those hips moving to Latin grooves of salsa, cha-cha, and merengue with Salsa Babies! Once your child is standing, you can do Salsa Tots together (ages 18 months–5 years).
H20-Fit Diaper-Fit
Hit the pool for an aquafit workout! In Diaper-Fit, for adults with babies age 5 to 17 months, you’re challenged with an adult fitness class while your baby lounges or plays in a flotation device, then you both participate in family splash time with songs and infant/child water safety instruction. Older kids can graduate to Toddler-Fit.
Belly Bootcamp
Designed for moms to get back into shape after pregnancy, Belly Bootcamp allows you to workout alongside your baby (age 6 weeks+). Focus is one core strength and posture. Classes are held in various locations throughout the city: indoors in fitness studios November through April, outdoors in Toronto parks May through October.
YMCA Family Classes
Toronto has four YMCA health and fitness centres. In the GTA, there are centres in Brampton, Markham, Mississauga, North York, Oshawa, and Scarborough. Classes range by location, but include family classes for soccer, badminton, dance, and tai chi, plus family swim times. Classes change with the seasons, too, so check your local centre for what’s new.
Family Yoga Classes
There are many family yoga classes at yoga studios in and around the city that range from mom-and-baby yoga classes to yoga for the whole family—older kids, too. Browse these yoga & meditation programs for kids to find one near you. You can also register for low-cost family yoga programs through the City of Toronto.
