What Mom Really Wants for Mother’s Day

Holidays

A lavish Mother’s Day brunch or other hot-ticket activity isn’t everyone’s cup of tea. And the things that matter most to Mom are often much simpler and cheaper—they may even be free!

Flowers and chocolate are nice (and let’s be honest: chocolate never hurts) but these five easy and low-key ideas are what Mom really wants for Mother’s Day. Best of all, most of them are easy to do last-minute and with minimal planning.

1. A clean house.

Sorry, Dad. We know you don’t want to hear this one, but this is a gift that will be truly appreciated!

2. Breakfast and/or dinner.

Whether it’s the classic breakfast in bed or making something she loves for dinner, ordering in or taking her out, today is about making Mom’s life easier. Just don’t expect her to clean up the dishes afterward!

3. Quality family time.

With work, school, sports practices, activities, and everything in between, sometimes it’s hard to remember what it’s like to just hang out as a family. Mom may enjoy some uninterrupted (read: electronic-device-free!) time together, like a picnic, a  family board game, or a family movie night.

4. “Me” time.

Mom may wish for nothing more than a quiet house for a morning or afternoon. And for new parents, especially, sleep is probably high on the list. (Along with using the bathroom alone!) Dad: it’s your day out with the kids.

5. A show of appreciation.

Whether from kids or Dad or both, a heartfelt thank-you for all the work she does every day is bound to be cherished.
