Mother’s Day is almost upon us—this Sunday, May 10th, moms all over the world will be showered with love, admiration, and breakfast in bed. But with the social distancing protocols still in effect, a lot of Mother’s Day traditions are being put on the backburner.
There will be no Mother’s Day brunches, no High Tea celebrations, no spa days, no big (or small) family gatherings. And hey, we will all survive—we can celebrate in our normal ways when life gets back to normal. But that doesn’t mean Mother’s Day should pass without some kind of acknowledgment.
While Amazon Prime isn’t up to it’s normal one-day speed, there are some gifts that can be delivered on Sunday without any issues—the ones that your kids make themselves, at home.
So forward this link to your partner, let them know there are only 6 days until Mother’s Day, and that they should start crafting, asap.
Coffee Filter Flowers
If your local florists aren’t available for deliveries—or even if they are—this craft is a fun floral alternative. These coffee filter flowers will last until social distancing is a thing of the past, and can be made with things that you have in your home. And really what person doesn’t love peonies?
Sunshine Pasta Card
If you’ve got paper, pasta, a black marker, and (optional) yellow paint, then you’ve got everything you need to make mom an adorable card. Be sure to write your message on the inside before you attach the pasta to the front of the card.
Painted Tea Towels
Give mom’s tea towel collection a facelift with this fun tutorial from Making Home Base. We love the fun patterns the citrus provides and if you have a lime and an orange in the house, you can play with size as well.
DIY Heart Mug
While this craft might require an order from Amazon, this one is so easy that kids of all ages will love it! Kids can draw their own interpretation of a heart and bake it onto a mug, so that every time you go for a swig of that all-important coffee you’ll remember how much you love them, even if you hate homeschooling.
Hand Knit Blanket
Okay, okay hear me out. It might seem crazy but this tutorial will show you how to make an arm-knit blanket in just 45-minutes. Imagine how impressed mom would be when you tell her that you not only knit her gift yourself, but that you did it in less than an hour!
Hand-Shaped Ring Dish
We’re all a sucker for any kind of craft that uses our kid’s hand or footprint, am I right? I mean they grow up so fast! We need these crafts as a daily reminder of just how tiny they used to be. That’s why I love this hand-shaped ring dish—not only is it super practical, it also pulls on those heart strings.
Floral Bath Bombs
Let’s be honest, what all parents need right now is a little bit of relaxation. So why not craft mom her very own bath bomb and gift her with a lovely, quiet bath to herself?
Chocolate Flower Bouquet
If there is one thing I love more than flowers, it’s chocolate. So this craft that brings the two together is right up my alley. You can pick up all the ingredients you need to make a chocolate flower bouquet on your weekly grocery run, and it’s a fun and easy activity for your kids to do on their own or with the supervision of your partner.
Hand Holding Card
Create a card that is as beautiful as the message inside with this tutorial from The House That Lars Built. We love the idea of using each kids’ hands to make a different card—you get a chance to give mom a special message while also commemorating just how small or big your kid is getting.
Photo Magnets
If you don’t have a crafty teen in your home, this might be a craft that your partner can lead with your younger kids. But we absolutely love the idea of mini photo magnets covering the fridge.
DIY Rope Basket
Add a little flair to your mom’s favourite room of the house with this fun and easy do-it-yourself rope basket. You can choose any coloured rope you think your mom would love and decorate it to match her style.
Chocolate Sugar Scrub
Your favourite spa might be closed, but that doesn’t mean you can’t have a little pampering on Mother’s Day. We love this DIY chocolate sugar scrub recipe that you can make with a few pantry staples. If you don’t have coconut oil, any cooking oil will do the trick!
Mother’s Day Chocolate Bark
I think we mentioned before about chocolate and how amazing it is. This Mother’s Day chocolate bark is already winning just by being chocolate… add to that the fact that it is simply stunning and it’s a 10/10 winner in our books.
Homemade Spice Blends
If you have a mom who loves to get into the kitchen and cook, creating a few homemade spice blends can save her time and give her a fun new way to experiment in the kitchen. We love these ideas from Naturally Ella.
Reasons I Love My Mom Jar
This is as wonderful and simple as it sounds—have your little one write down all the reasons they love their mom on pieces of paper. Stuff all those papers into a mason jar to create a heartfelt keepsake for mom. We love this version that ditches the jar and helps kids learn a little origami.
DIY Recipe Box
Take your mom’s recipe collection to the next level with a beautiful, customized recipe box. Take it to the next level by adding in her favourite recipes on custom recipe cards that match the box’s design.
