Whether you’re visiting Vancouver for the first time with the kids or you’re a local planning a staycation (like us!) this summer, here are some of the best things to do with kids after you’ve hit all the downtown sights.
These fun day trips are a few favourites from a local Vancouver family who has done it all!
North Vancouver
The Capilano Suspension Bridge is a must for any fun-seeking family. Conquer the 450-foot long bridge, walk the suspension bridges from tree to tree in Capilano’s Treetop Adventures and if you dare, tackle the Cliffwalk. Once on solid ground, head to Ambleside Park for a relaxing afternoon at the beach.
Don’t forget to stop at Savary Island Pie Company for a sweet treat before heading home.
Steveston Village
A quaint fishing village, Steveston Village has it all. Walk the docks and get up close and personal with the day’s catch, explore Britannia Heritage Shipyard and grab some fish and chips at Pajo’s.
If the wind is right, fly a kite at Gary Point Park and if the sun is hot, hit the Steveston Water Park. There’s some great boutique shopping in the village for mom too.
Lynden, Washington
Visit Holland without a passport. Just 8 miles south of the US/Canada border, the pretty town of Lynden, Washington, is one of the largest Dutch American communities in the nation.
Check out the 72-foot tall working windmill, visit the Pioneer Museum and walk along the canal. Watch out for clog-wearing Dutchmen.
Deep Cove
Nothing says summer like a day at the cove. Deep Cove is the closest thing Vancouver has to a cottage community.
Rent a kayak and explore the Indian Arm, hike the family-friendly trails or just sit back and soak in the incredible views. Grab a snack at the famous Honey Doughnuts and Goodies and shop lovely things at Room 6.
Belcarra Regional Park
Break the Spanish Banks and Kits Beach routine and explore a new sandy destination. Belcarra Regional Park boasts the warmest lake in Greater Vancouver and is a sunbathers (or sandcastle builder’s) dream. The park is full of scenic picnic spots and walking trails. Don’t forget to bring the bikes!
That’s just a sample of what Vancouver has to offer. You can find more fun things to do, along with classes for kids, camps, parent resources, and more in the Help! We’ve Got Kids Vancouver Directory.
