Family Fun

Take a wagon ride, jump in a hay bale, commune with barnyard animals, and pick-your-own pumpkin at these fun fall festivals for the whole family! Fall brings lots of fun-filled fall events, with apple-picking, pumpkin-carving and jumping in piles of crisp autumn leaves. Farm festivals and harvest festivals begin in early September and run through the end of October in Toronto and the GTA.

Festivals are listed in order by start date.

Riverdale Farm Fall Harvest Festival

This community soirée provides a taste of the farming lifestyle. Activities include line dancing, a chicken and hog calling contest, and a petting zoo occupied by goats and sheep, donkeys and cows, and tiny chicks. Plus a pancake breakfast!

Brooks Farms Fall Fun Festival

The annual Fall Fun Festival at this century-old farm is non-stop fun for kids. Just a handful of the highlights: corn cob blasters and a pumpkin cannon show, train rides, zip lines, farm animals, a pirate ship, a corn maze, straw pyramids and jumps, and an animated singing chicken show. Kids can also pick their own pumpkins and play on the Barnyard Playland.

Pioneer Harvest Festival

At Black Creek Pioneer Village, this festival is also known as the Toronto Mennonite Festival. Attend for a handmade Mennonite quilt auction, and a cider mill demo, plus homemade pies, sausages, apple butter, hand-made ice cream and more delicious foods as well as a farmers’ market, international foods, live folk music, and interactions with barnyard animals. Take wagon rides, sample historic ales in the brewery, and see demonstrations in historic candle-dipping, cooking, grain threshing, and more.

Springridge Farm Harvest Festival

This family-run farm’s annual fall festival includes fun activities like wagon rides to a 5-acre corn trail, the Spooky Boo Barn, a spider-web climber, pipe slides, and puppet shows. Always open are the Fun Farm Yard, with animal barn, giant sandbox, straw bale jumping. Also at the farm: a singing chicken show, pony rides, pumpkins for sale, and the Springridge Farm BBQ Barn.

Downey’s Farm Market PumpkinFest

The annual PumpkinFest is a harvest fun fair for kids, with wagon rides, the Boo Barn, farm animals, giant jumping pillows, the 40-foot Goat Mountain tube slide, a paintball target range, pony rides, make-your-own-scarecrows, and more.

The 4-km corn maze is open during the day or for a spooky nighttime walk (by reservation). You can pick your own apples, and the farm has free-range turkeys on order.

Forsythe Family Farms October Harvest Festival

Wagon rides, a cuddle station with bunnies and guinea pigs, pony kart rides (Sundays and Thanksgiving only), pick-your-own pumpkins, and “junior farmer” activities (including feeding the animals) for kids ages 8–12 are all part of this annual family-friendly festival held on October weekends. You can also visit with farm animals, slide down Billy Goat Mountain, and get lost in the 2-acre corn maze. Check the schedule for special events like gingerbread cookie decorating and apple cider pressing. The farm is open daily, but festival events only take place on weekends.

Apple Harvest Festival

Take a trip to the Blue Mountain on Thanksgiving weekend for the annual Apple Harvest Festival, celebrating Ontario’s largest apple-growing region. Free activities take place throughout the area, from Blue Mountain Village to Thornbury and Clarksburg. The festival features live music, the Apple Pie Trail, street performers, and more. While you’re here, enjoy some of the province’s best hiking and biking trails, activities at Blue Mountain Resort and Scenic Caves, plus fall colours drives.

More Fun Fall Festivals

Many neighbourhoods and towns celebrate fall with local harvest festivals and funfairs, such as the Mount Pleasant Village Harvest Fair (Sep. 21), the Newcastle Harvest Festival in Durham (Oct. 5), the Georgetown Fall Fair (Sep. 6–8), and the Uxbridge Fall Fair (Sep. 6–8). Another option for honey-lovers is the Honey Harvest Festival (Sep. 21–22).
