How To Throw the Perfect Princess Party

Birthday Parties

If your little one is all about princesses, chances are you’ll be throwing a royal fête for their next birthday. The key: think pink and sparkly! We’ve got some cute and easy ideas for a princess-themed birthday party your wee one will love.

Invitations

Start by inviting your child’s friends to a special royal birthday ball being held in their honour. You can find a free template online, or opt for handmade or pre-made invites. Ask that guests arrive in their finest princess dress-up clothes (but be sure to have some extra play clothes on hand, just in case).

Setting the Scene

Get everyone into the princess mode by welcoming guests with princess wands and paper crowns or mini-tiaras. Let them add some crown jewels to their look with sparkly beaded necklaces and gemstone rings that you can find at your local dollar store or party supply shop.

Decorations

Transform your home into a regal palace with a few budget-friendly DIY projects. A simple pink tassel bunting is an easy way to dress up any table, and DIY tissue-paper pompoms can hang from the ceiling in place of balloons. Pink paper streamers will dress up a wall behind your food station or gift table. And pink tulle or ribbons tied to chairs will add some instant regal flair.

Games/Entertainment

It’s only fitting that a royal ball birthday party would include some dancing! Play a fun “freeze!” game by having kids dance to your child’s favourite songs from princess movies, and then stop the music at random intervals. The last guest to freeze on the spot is out! Continue until you’ve crowned a winner.

You can also set up a cookie-decorating station with crown-shaped sugar cookies and an assortment of icing, sprinkles, dragées, and other assorted candies. Guests can take their cookie creations home as part of their loot bag.

Food

Once guests have worked up an appetite, it’s time for a royal tea party! Dainty finger sandwiches and teacups full of pink lemonade are perfect for the occasion. Bonus points if you have a crown-shaped cookie cutter for the sandwiches! You can also put together some simple fruit “wands” with yummy pink fruit like watermelon and strawberries. Just make sure that guests have room for dessert—a pink ombre birthday cake! (It’s easy to make one yourself—we like this pretty cake from The Idea Room.

Loot Bags

It wouldn’t be a birthday party without a loot bag! You can’t go wrong with some homemade pink glitter play dough, packaged with a crown-shaped cookie cutter and a few colourful gems.
