Spring Cleaning Checklist – Top 7 Spots To Clean

House and Home

It’s finally starting to feel as though Spring has sprung…and all of a sudden we’ve been bit with the spring cleaning bug, and as much as we love getting our homes back in tip-top shape, we never quite know where to start. Since it looks like our house could use some serious freshening up from head to toe, we’ve decided to kick things off with these seven can’t miss spots.

Organize Under the Bed
Get down on all fours and brave the dust bunnies to sort through and clean out your under-bed storage. We know it’s one task that’s easy to put off, but finally clearing it out will help you sleep easier at night (we promise, Princess-and-the-Pea).

We love this idea for an under-the-bed Lego tray. Keeps Lego organized and keeps them from joining forces with the dust bunnies (which will have less room to party as well).

Clean Out the Linen Closet
We’re used to organizing the washcloths and blankets piled high on the shelves, but how often do we take everything out? This time around, remove the closet’s contents entirely, take inventory and throw out old towels and wrong-sized bed sheets instead of neatly tucking them away again.

Of course, the queen of clean, Martha Stewart has some great, simple tips for organizing your linen closet. We love the tip of storing sheets inside their matching pillow case – so perfect!

Clean Out the Hall Closet
Hopefully it’s warm enough to go through, clean and pack away things like snow pants, heavy coats and scarves. Keep at least one hat for chilly, rainy mornings and you should have a clutter-free, tidy closet in no time. Make sure you pull to the front things like rain coats, umbrellas, spring jackets and rain pants for the kidlets.

We found five fairly easy-to-implement tips on how to clean up and organize your front hall, closet or no closet.

Tidy the Pantry
We love storing goodies in our kitchen pantry, but sometimes, we forget about them until they’re long overdue. Start sorting through cans and packets (and check those spices, too!), so you can throw out anything that’s past its prime or donate still-fresh items that you doubt you’ll use.

Tidy Up The Hard Drive
Clean up what is on your laptop/computer at home. Get a hard drive and back up photos and important files there and not on your computer hard drive. It seems like a trivial task compared to the actual cleaning that needs to be done in the house, but trust us, it’s vital. You don’t want to lose those photos if your computer crashes, do you? And while you’re at it, back up your phones and tablets if you have them.

Wipe Behind the Fridge
Crumbs can’t help but slip through the cracks, so take a look at the space between your kitchen fridge, counters, and beside walls. Carefully clean out any food bits that tried to stay out of your eye’s reach, and after making your way around the fridge’s perimeter, check the top for a final wipe-down. Also cleaning out the fridge at this point is a good idea – make room for all those great veggies and fruits that will soon be coming home from the farmer’s markets.

Here is a great top-to-bottom list of what and how to clean when cleaning out and around the fridge. Printing it out and posting it on the fridge might encourage someone else to do it…

Clean Carpets and Floors
Those rugs we’ve been wiping our feet on all winter long? They’re due for a good cleaning, if we do say so ourselves. Now’s the perfect time to clean washable rugs, scrub those hardwood floors and either steam clean it yourself or have other carpeting professionally cleaned.

Pinterest is a great resource for things like natural carpet cleaners, tips on how to DIY steam clean, how to clean floors and carpets with essential oils and tips for cleaning up after pets.
