About The York School

The York School was the first school in Canada to be accredited to offer the full International Baccalaureate (IB) programme from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 12.

The Junior School (JK–Grade 5) is a co-education program for students from junior kindergarten to grade 5. It offers small class sizes so that children get individual attention and support. Students learn through inquiry-based learning. Athletics, arts, wellness and student leadership are integral to the students’ education, as is the outdoor education program that includes urban day trips, such as the Kortright Centre, the Toronto Zoo, Downey’s Farm, McMichael Art Gallery and much more. The school also offers a wide range of co-curricular activities.

The Middle School (Graded 6–8) is a co-education program for students from grade 6 through eight, focusing on nine core subjects: English, humanities (integrated), science, mathematics, French, physical education, instrumental music, visual arts and technology. In addition to athletics, student leadership, wellness and outdoor education, a wide range of co-curriculars helps nurture students’ interests in a variety of clubs such as robotics, Minecraft, film, Glee and many others.

The Senior School (Grades 9–12) offers an IB Diploma for graduates, which provides an internationally recognized, highly prestigious and well-balanced education for students. This includes their Integrated Canadian Experience (ICE) program for grade 9 students, which combines study of Canadian history, geography, civics and literature. In addition to athletics, arts, wellness, student leadership and outdoor excursions, students at The Senior School can also choose from a variety of co-curriculars and clubs to explore and develop their interests, ranging from Model UN an debating to jazz ensemble and programmers’ club.
