It’s June! School is almost out and summer is almost here. ‘Tis the season for baseball games, food festivals, and farmer’s markets. Don’t forget that Father’s Day is this month, too. Stay tuned for more Father’s Day events in the GTA.
Here are 10 of our favourite things on the calendar this month in and around Toronto.
Sharing Dance Day
Be a part of the nation’s biggest dance party, celebrating Canada’s 150th birthday! Canada’s National Ballet School and partners will be hosting the event and they’ve got a lot planned for all you awesome dancers. There will be dance workshops, performances by professionals and student dance groups, and activity booths.

Withrow Park Farmers’ Market
Through rain or shine, the farmers’ market will be open every Saturday morning through June. The market has united the community for 11 years, through vibrant live music, delicious local food, and arts and crafts activities for kids. As a part of the Centre for Local Food initiatives, there are certified organic, non-GMO, and sustainably produced products available at the market.

Toronto Coin Expo: Kid’s Coin Collecting Workshop & Auction
This is great event for young (or young at heart) people who are interested in learning all about what beginners can collect. You’ll get the chance to see how chocolate coins are made, which is very similar to how the Mint makes coins. Chocolate coins and real ones will be available for you to sort into your collection. There’s also an auction for young collectors and they’ll be using school play money to buy real items!

19th Annual Riverdale Art Walk
Get outside and kick off the start of the summer season with this fine art event, presented by the Artist’s Network. There will be a show featuring emerging and established artists from across Canada with work in mixed media, photography, sculpture, and many other kinds of painting. Come shop for affordable and wonderfully unique artworks.

The Junction Summer Solstice
Festival-goers can come together to celebrate the beginning of Toronto’s warmest season, on Dundas Street West in The Junction! It’ll be a full day of leisure shopping, art, outdoor patios, music, and fun programs. Spend the summer solstice having a warm, wonderful day outside with the fam!

Wildlife Rescue at the Ontario Science Centre
Learn about the efforts of caretakers who raise and release young elephants and orangutans back into the wild in Africa and Indonesia. See how they capture, raise, and release endangered species in the Special Recovery Center. You’ll get a chance to try out the puppets, costumes, and other techniques used to teach young animals essential survival skills. This is an eye-opening, amazing, inspiring event that’ll be sure to capture the attention of young kids.

Grand Opening of LEGO Ninjago City Adventure at LEGOLAND Discovery Centre
Come test your ninja skills at the new LEGO Ninjago City Adventure. Fight to save Ninjago City and put your skills to the test in the two-story play structure. Adults and children will have their balance, strength, endurance, and agility tested to see if they have what it takes to be a Spinjitzu Master.

Out of the Depths: The Blue Whale Story
The blue whale is one of the world’s largest and mysterious animals and now the ROM is giving you the chance to get up close and personal. Follow the story of the tragedy that happened in 2014 and was followed by an unprecedented opportunity for research and conservation. You’ll learn about the biology of blue whales and what’s being done to protect the world’s largest animal.

Junior Jays Saturdays
Bring your kids to the Saturday Home Game at the Ballpark for Jr. Jays, where kids 14 and under get to visit the Jr. Jays Zones (on the 100, 200, and 500 levels) and participate in awesome activities up until the eighth inning! Don’t forget to bring your kids down to the field to run the bases just like the pros, after the game.
June home games are against the Yankees (June 3) and White Sox (June 17).

Riverside Eats and Beats Streetfest
The festival celebrates Ontario and Canada’s 150th anniversary and indigenous roots; local restaurants will be opening their doors for you to fill up on delicious bites, there will be live music, entertainment, and Riverside tasters. Most of the activities and the live music are free, so you won’t need your ticket to join in!
