This winter has been all over the place: warm, cold, sunny, snowy, rainy, and just plain blah. We can’t predict what kind of crazy weather is in store for us in March, but at least we can plan ahead for all the great events coming our way.
With deliciously sticky maple syrup festivals, colourful and noisy St. Patrick’s Day parades, adventurous Easter egg hunts, and March Break madness, you’re never going to run low on family fun.

On this month in Toronto for kids:
Outdoor Fun
Spring hasn’t quite arrived, but we can finally see it in the distance. Now is the time to grab what’s left of winter and have as much snowy fun as you can. Grab your skates and head over to CF Shops at Don Mills for some icy family fun or head to Councillor Janet Davis’ 13th Annual Skating Party for some live entertainment, face painting, and prizes. For a starlit snowy adventure, try Scenic Caves guided night snowshoe hikes or night cross-country skiing. Various dates all month
Celebrate Maple Syrup
Learn about the history of this sticky and sweet, time-honored traditional Canadian treat at one of the many festivals going on this month. The kids will enjoy watching how the sap is boiled into syrup, and will absolutely love tasting it on hot and fresh pancakes.
Discover maple syrup through the years at the Maple Syrup Festival in Rockton, or enjoy a wagon ride and taste maple sugar candies at Mountsberg Mapletown. You can drive to Milton for the Sweet Water Season at Crawford Lake to check out a reconstructed Iroquoian Village and get interative, or head over to Sugar Bush Tours in Dunnville collect sap and browse their market. Learn about history and play some games at Bronte Creek, or stay local and enjoy Toronto’s Sugar Shack at Sugar Beach. March 5–27 (various dates)
EnviroRangers: Caring For Young Animals
Calling all animal lovers! Visit the Toronto Zoo with your curiosity to learn more about the veterinarians and animal keepers who care for the 5000 animals and discover how they do it. The program includes a tour, activities, and a behind-the-scenes animal encounter. March 5
Markham Museum Family Fun Slimy Science
Join the Markham Museum team and learn all about the human body’s slimy science: mucus and blood. Explore science hands-on and have fun as a family. March 5
Country Dance
Dance the winter blahs away at this Country Dance in the English tradition with the entire family. No dance skills needed! March 5
TIFF’s Award-winning Digital Playground
Go on an interactive adventure at the fifth edition of the digiPLaySpace exhibition. Educational installations include multi-player videogames, virtual reality, Olympic-sized stop-motion sports, green screen escapades, robotic and circuit building activities in a DIY maker space, and more. March 5–April 24
Model Railroaders Train Show
All aboard! Train lovers unite at the Model Railroaders Train Show to check out the model set in southern Ontario in the 1950s with sounds and steam, as well as a model set in the Allegheny Mountains in the 1980s with 30 miles of scale track. Kids will be mesmerized as they watch the 80 car freight-trains wind their way around the mountainous scenery. March 6
2016 Tubbs Romp to Stomp Ontario Breast Cancer Snowshoe Event
Participate in the 9th annual Tubbs Romp and Stomp at Scenic Caves Nordic Centre benefiting the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation. There are 3k and 5k snowshoe walks and races and even a 1k dash for the little ones. For all ages and abilities. March 6
Mosaic Storytelling Festival 2016 – Tales from Around the World
The Mosaic Storytelling Festival is an ongoing event with different themes on different days. Bring the kids to experience unique stories and culture from around the world. Stories from Ireland and Peru on March 6 is about boys and their grandfathers, drawn from old and new folklore and personal experiences, while the Mosaic Storytelling event on March 20 combines folktales and real life to tell the sage of a brave little girl. March 6 and 20
Pyjama Party at the Toronto Zoo
Grab your flashlights and sleeping bags – Kids and parents can spend a night at the Zoo and visit the animals before they go to sleep. You can choose between the March 12 Pyjama Party or the March 19 Pyjama Party to participate in this super fun, overnight, indoor family education program with a bedtime snack provided. March 12–13, 19–20
Monster Energy Supercross
Come watch the top Supercross series in the world and see talented riders from all over the globe compete in an intense race to the finish! You’ll be on the edge of your seats during this high-energy, super-exciting, fast-paced event. March 12
St. Patrick’s Day Parade
Celebrate St. Paddy’s Day with a colourful, loud, and festively Irish parade. Toronto’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade celebrates Ireland and Toronto and the diversity that makes our city so great. March 13
Princess Dance Party at Casa Loma
Princesses and Superheroes unite for a fun day of activities at Casa Loma’s Princess Dance Party. Put on your favourite costume and join in for carriage rides, face painting, crafting, and lots of great food. You’ll get to hang out with your favourite princesses and heroes, and of course, dance the night away! March 17
Disney on Ice Celebrates 100 Years of Magic
Celebrate 100 years of magic at Disney on Ice. See all your favourite characters gliding across the ice, including Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, all of the princesses. And, of course, Elsa, Anna, and Olaf will be there to help you discover the love and magic of this wonderful event. March 17–20
Toronto ComiCon
Grab your storm-trooper costume, your elf ears, and your battle gear for this three-day extravaganza for fans of comics, sci-fi, horror, anime, and gaming. Toronto ComiCon is a fantasy come true, and includes tons of family-friendly activities and celebrity guests. March 18–20
Super Sunday – Transformations: Cyborgs and Hybrids
Use your imagination at this Super Sunday event to morph animals into robots by creating a multi-media masterpiece at Station Gallery. March 20
Connecting With Wildlife Conservation
Show the animals your love by visiting the interactive interpretive stations throughout the Zoo to connect with wildlife conservation and learn more about how to save and protect animals around the world. March 25–28
Evergreen Winter Village
The winter fun at Evergreen Village has been going on since December, but is coming to an end on March 26. Festivities include workshops, hikes, eco-adventures, theatre, local food tastings, cooking classes, farmer’s markets, and more. Until March 26
I SPY
Phil the Magic Guy will make the impossible happen right before you eyes at I SPY, a fun-filled magic show that will have the whole family laughing. March 27
