Toronto Fun with Kids March 2015

Family Fun

March brings lots of excitement to ease the sting of those final cold days of winter. Especially with all the March Break activities planned. If you’re home with the kids, there will be many activities to fill your days. And check out the many cool March Break camp options for kids—there’s still time to book at some of them. (See our full directory of Toronto camps for more.)

So let’s get started and take the end of winter—and the beginning of the Year of the Sheep—by the horns!

The first day of March is the last day of LunarFest 2015: a celebration of the Chinese new year with a dumpling festival and competition, storytelling, themed crafts for kids, and Toronto’s largest display of dragon dances. February 28–March 1

Maple Syrup Farms and Festivals

It’s maple syrup time! Maple syrup festivals and farms have lots of fun activities for the whole family: pancakes and syrup (of course), tours of the sugar bush, syrup-making demos, candy samples, and play areas for kids.

Plan your trip to maple syrup festivals and sugar shacks in the Greater Toronto Area, including the Sugar Bush Maple Syrup Festival (Feb. 28–Apr. 6), Maple Town at Mountsberg Conservation Centre (Feb. 28–Apr. 6) and the Maple Syrup Festival at Bronte Creek (weekends in March; daily during March Break). all month and ongoing

Discover all maple festivals and farms in the GTA open this month.

Contemporary Art Workshops

New at the Museum of Contemporary Canadian Art is the free Mini MOCCA workshop series for children ages 4–12. We wish we could attend ourselves, with fun topics Canada in Collage and Make Your Own Sketchbook this month. A $5 donation is requested. March 1 and March 22

Children’s Theatre: Pinocchio

We cannot tell a lie: the classic children’s tale Pinocchio is on at the Young People’s Theatre this month, with matinees during March Break. March 3–21

International Bike Show

Whether you’re in the market for a new bike for your child (at great prices) or just want to see the action—BMX freestyle riding on the indoor stunt course, mini-velodrome racing—or gape at the fresh new wheels on display, the International Bicycle Show is sure to be lots of fun. March 6–8

Princess (and Prince) Party at Casa Loma

Kings Court at Casa Loma is the place to be for little princes and princesses during March Break. Kids take part in a hero’s quest and can meet Cinderella! March 14–22

Dinosaur Train

It’s undeniable: kids love trains and kids love dinosaurs. Put ‘em together and what have you got? Why, a dinosaur train, of course! The popular TVO show is coming to Toronto with the Dinosaur Train Live! interactive live show. March 18

Frozen Fun

The only thing that could possibly trump dinosaurs on trains is Disney on Ice Presents: Frozen, the event of the season for Elsa- and Anna-obsessed kiddos. March 18–22

Comedy for Kids

The Second City is presenting its kid-centric musical comedy show Big Bad Wolf vs. Lord Underwear von Schtinker during March Break. March 16–22

Test-drive the latest tricked-out strollers, experience the best in baby-wearing, and see all the best new and exciting gear for babies and toddlers (and mamas), at the Baby ShowMarch 28–29

The Sound of Music

Experience the classic movie The Sound of Music for the first time with your child as part of the Cineplex Classic Film Series. March 29-April 6

Skiing (Before It’s Too Late)

If you’ve been putting off strapping on those ski boots, now is the time to do it before the winter passes you by. March Break is a great opportunity to hit one of the awesome cross-country ski trails in the GTA, especially with amazing March Break deals on now (like this offer at Scenic Caves in Collingwood)!

Or if your family is more the adrenaline junkie type, head to an area ski resort for downhill skiing or snowboarding. ongoing
