Want to look as glamourous as those single ladies who have hours to spend researching hairstyles on Pinterest and getting blow-outs?

Armed with these five tools you can do just that—in much less time.

1. Dry Shampoo
No time to wash and dry? Thank goodness for dry shampoo. And it’s inexpensive! You can find a great dry shampoo like Batiste Dry Shampoo Original at Walmart, Shoppers Drug Mart, and Well.ca for under $10. Just shake the can, spray your roots, and massage through your hair. Start by shaking the can and spraying it into the roots. For updos, try Batiste Dry Shampoo XXL Volume for extra volume and bounce. There are even travel-size versions, if you’ve really left it to the last minute!

2. Elastics and Bobby Pins
Invest the $5–$7 in value packs of no-pull hair elastics (those tiny no-see-um ones) and bobby pins. For most hairstyles, you’ll need a lot of them. And even with no-bobby-pin ‘dos, they come in handy for fly-aways as the evening progresses. (Or if, say, your toddler pulls your hair as you’re saying goodnight…)

3. Bun-Making Wrap
The Wrap-Up or Qwickbuns tools are so easy to use for those with medium-length to long hair—you literally just wrap up your hair in seconds to get amazing-looking buns. No bobby pins required.

4. Hair Donut
Available for $5 or less at most drugstores and Walmarts, these allow you to make those big formal-looking buns. You can also, apparently, make your own donut with a sock.

5. Maximum-hold hairspray.
Every formal hairstyle ends in enough hairspray to paralyze an ant colony. Embrace it—you don’t go out on the town every night!

6. YouTube
Ha ha ha…no, seriously. Tune in and find a hairstyle you like, then follow along as talented amateur stylists and bloggers show you how to work magic with bobby pins and hairspray. One of our favourite series of videos is by style blogger (and mom!) Kate at The Small Things Blog. Here’s her tutorial for an Easier Than It Looks Updo. Once you find a technique you like, you’ll be able to perfect it in a minute or two.

What are some of your fabulous hair ideas this holiday?
