The Great Kitchen Renovation (Tracie Wagman)

We recently went through a full kitchen renovation. And when I say full I mean all-the-way-down-to-the-studs full. Absolutely everything was taken out and redone. It was a project that I had been dying to do for years and years and was finally given the go ahead from my CFO (read: husband).

Having never been through a renovation of any kind I totally thought “how awful can it be”? Note: I used that very same logic when deciding to have a baby while doing my MBA. I honestly do not recommend this to anyone, by the way.

Things were off to a great start when we sold our old kitchen in full to someone. We were so happy we didn’t have to throw anything out and were being so eco-friendly, even in demolition. Then slowly the realization that we suddenly did not have a kitchen sunk in. This was going to suck.

At this point the hero of our story appears. We were lucky enough to find Damian from Mayzo Design and Construction. Damian saved us from ourselves. He brought in fantastic suppliers, he was here every day and treated our house like it was his own, taking care of every detail. At one point when I asked for help with something that didn’t have to do with the actual renovation (like fixing something in my bathroom), he and his team helped me with no questions asked. Like I said: we were lucky to find him.

Right in the middle of our gigantic renovation we had a death in the family and had to have 40 people over to our house everyday and feed them. With no kitchen. Damian and his team moved our new fridge and stove into our unfinished kitchen and hooked them up. Then they set up a makeshift table and moved all our boxes neatly into the kitchen. He went completely above and beyond the call of duty and during this stressful time and I can’t tell you how much that meant to us.

If you are considering renovating or building a house I can’t recommend Mayzo enough. If (when??) I decide to do this again, I know who I am going to call.
