Labour Day weekend is here, and this year is definitely feels a bit different. With no CNE this year, physical distancing still in effect, and staggered starts to the school year (depending on your school board), this last long weekend of the summer might have a strange vibe to it. But whether you are looking for one last fun activity for the kids, or are just wondering where you can do your groceries, here’s a guide to what is open and closed in Toronto on Labour Day weekend.

Friendly reminder that masks are required at all indoor spaces for those over the ages of 3. And most attractions require pre-booked tickets so be sure to book in advance.

What’s Open on Labour Day

  • Museums and indoor attractions. Most museums and indoor attractions are open, including the ROM, the AGO, the Ontario Science Centre, Ripley’s Aquarium, the Aga Khan Museum, and the Spadina Museum. Most attractions require TIMED tickets, so be sure to book in advance.
  • Outdoor attractions. There’s lots to do while the sun is shining! Open all weekend and on Monday are Fort York National Historic Site (pre-booked tours), the Toronto Zoo (timed tickets), Evergreen Brick Works, Treetop Trekking (all locations) and Treewalk Village.
  • Malls and shopping centres. Most are closed on Monday but a handful are open on Labour Day: Eaton Centre downtown (11 am–7 pm); Mississauga’s Square One (11 am–6 pm); Bramalea City Centre in Brampton (11 am–6 pm); Toronto Premium Outlets in Halton Hills (11 am–7 pm); Hillcrest Mall in Richmond Hill (11 am–6 pm); Promenade Mall in Thornhill (11 am–6 pm); Upper Canada Mall in Newmarket (11 am–6 pm); Vaughan Mills outlet mall (11 am–7 pm), Tanger Outlet Mall in Cookstown (11 am–6 pm).
  • Select City of Toronto pools. Although most outdoor pools and all wading pools will close by 4 pm on Sunday, these outdoor pools will be open from noon to 5 pm on Labour Day:
    • Alex Duff Memorial Pool
    • Domenico Di Luca Community Recreation Centre
    • Donald D. Summerville Olympic Pools
    • Goulding Community Centre
    • Greenwood Park
    • Heron Park Outdoor Pool
    • McGregor Park Outdoor Pool
    • O’Connor Community Centre
    • Oriole Community Centre
    • Parkway Forest Outdoor Pool
    • Pine Point Outdoor Pool
    • Riverdale Park East Outdoor Pool
    • Rotary Peace Park Outdoor Pool
    • Stanley Park South – Toronto
    • Sunnyside-Gus Ryder Outdoor Pool
    • West Mall Outdoor Pool
  • City of Toronto splash pads. City splash pads remain on through Sunday, September 13.
  • City of Toronto beaches. Beaches will be open and supervised on Monday, 11:30 am–6:30 pm. Consult the city beaches map to find one nearby. Note that  Rouge Valley Beach is currently inaccessible, and a supervised swim program will not operate there. Physical distancing guidelines are in effect.
  • Conservation areas and parks. Most conservation areas and parks are open, including TCRA parks, Conservation Halton parks, Credit Valley Conservation parks, Central Lake Ontario Conservation parks, Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority conservation areas,  Ontario Parks locations, and Rouge National Urban Park.
  • Mastermind Toys Richmond Hill is the only Mastermind branch open in the GTA on Labour Day.
  • Many drugstores. Last-minute school supplies alert! Find details on holiday hours for Shoppers Drug Mart locations; Rexall stores; and Guardian stores.
  • A few grocery stores. Whole Foods locations at Square One in Mississauga and in Yorkville; some Metro locations (including all 24-hour stores); and Loblaws at 60 Carlton Street (Maple Leaf Gardens) are open.

What’s Closed on Labour Day

  • All City of Toronto wading pools and most outdoor pools. Sunday is the last day for wading pools and outdoor pools except for 10 select outdoor pools (not wading pools) which are open.
  • City of Toronto indoor pools and recreation centres.
  • Toronto Public Library branches. They are closed Sunday and Monday.
  • Many malls and shopping centres. Those that are closed Monday include Yorkdale Mall, Fairview Mall, Shops at Don Mills, Sherway Gardens, Yonge Eglinton Centre, Eglinton Square, Stock Yards Village, Dufferin Mall,  Erin Mills Town Centre, Oakville Place, Mapleview Centre (Burlington), Oshawa Centre.
  • Most indoor playgrounds and play centres.
  • Most grocery stores. Exceptions are noted above.
