About High Park Zoo

Established in 1893 for deer, the High Park Zoo now has eleven paddocks for a variety of animals around the world including bisons (North America’s largest land animal), reindeer, yaks, sheep, peacocks, wallabies, emus, and capybaras.

The zoo is open daily, and admission is free. The animals are out regularly, engaging with visitors, regardless of weather. Visit the llama pen on weekends and statutory holidays from 11:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., from March through October, when it is open for visitors to pet and feed the llamas.

The zoo asks that you please don’t feed the animals, as they are on a special diet.

You can also learn more about the animals from the zookeepers, as they feed and care for the animals. They sometimes offer Meet the Keeper sessions, where you can ask questions. You can also watch the zookeepers train some of the young animals. Watching them take the baby llamas on a hike on halters outside of the pens is another popular attraction.
