New Year’s Eve celebrations often centre around adults-only bashes and the countdown to midnight. These family-friendly New Year’s Eve 2015 events in Toronto either take place earlier in the day or have lots of activities for kids in the early evening. Most end by 8 or 9 pm.
Ring in the New Year with the little ones on December 31 and have them in bed at a decent so you can participate in some grown-up merrymaking!
New Year’s Eve at Nathan Phillip’s Square is an annual tradition. Skate on the outdoor rink to DJ-spun tunes, surrounded by a festive light display. There will be street performers and food trucks before 9 pm, and live music and fireworks for older kids staying up late this year!
Rise early for family FUNshops at Colborne Lodge in High Park. Kids ages 6 to 10 make crafts, play Victorian games, and cook over a hearth, from 9 am to noon. Registration required.
In the Durham region, head to Oshawa Celebrates 2015, which will have plenty of diversions for kids, including swimming, crafts, magic, and live entertainment.
One of the biggest events planned for kids in the GTA is Tim Hortons First Night Newmarket, with swimming and skating, as well as comic juggling, a gymnastics area, a one-man band, magic shows, train rides, and fireworks.
The Harbourfront Centre’s Annual New Year’s Eve Skating Party is free. Enjoy skating and hot chocolate at the beautiful outdoor Natrel Rink, accompanied by live DJ music.
Tweens who love to primp are sure to enjoy the Noon Year’s Eve Party at various Glama Gal Tween Spa locations in Toronto and the GTA. It includes hair glitter application, confetti manicures, a dance party, non-alcoholic champagne and a balloon drop—and it’s all over by 2 pm.
Get outdoors as a family for Howl’n Hikes at Bronte Creek for naturalist-led educational coyote hikes, ice-skating, and fun in the Children’s Farm and Play Barn, followed by a New Year’s Eve countdown for kids around a bonfire at 8:30 pm.
Celebrate the new year with old-fashioned fun: take a wagon ride, a hike through nature, and take part in an old-fashioned country dance with the Family New Year’s Eve at Mountsberg Conservation Centre in Hamilton.
There’s still time to see the National Ballet of Canada’s The Nutcracker, on stage through January 4, 2015. It’s classic, and a magical way to spend New Year’s Eve.
