The weather in Ottawa in the summer is perfect. Balmy and warm in the day and ever-so-slightly breezy and cooler at night. A trip to one of these pools is definitely in order come August, after the kids have exhausted all the other summer plans and camps. Why not join them for a dip?
Entrance Outdoor Pool
This facility sits in a grassy, leafy park and includes a diving pool, heated pool and kiddie pool for the smaller set. There’s also a picnic area and volleyball court if the pool doesn’t completely tire them out. 2 Eaton Street, Ottawa; 613-829-2705. See swim schedule.
Bearbrook Outdoor Pool
With a covered gazebo and a kiddie pool with spray features, this outdoor pool area is a family-friendly spot to cool down on hot summer days. 2679 Innes Road, Ottawa; 613-824-8300. See swim schedule.
Katimavik Outdoor Pool
This west-end pool offers a shady patio and features two rectangular pools: a warm wading pool (about 18–24″ deep) and a regular pool with a deep-end diving board. Life-vests are available at no extra charge on a first-come-first-served basis. 64 Chimo Drive, Ottawa K2L 1Y9; 613-592-9793. See swim schedule.
Genest Outdoor Pool
The separate wading pool and close play structure, makes this spot ideal for young families. Secretly, we love the amazing commissioned mural one the side of an otherwise dull grey utility shed. 43 Ste-Cécile Street, Ottawa; 613-749-6488. See swim schedule.
General Burns Outdoor Pool
While we know the wee ones adore the separate wading pool (so much so that they never want to get out), the whole family loves the large grassy picnic area at this pool/recreational centre. Spend the day and enjoy all the facilities have to offer. 107 Chesterton Drive, Ottawa K2E 5T6; 613-225-7970. See swim schedule.
