Halloween is coming up faster than we know it. Get in the spirit—and get some extra mileage out of that costume!—from now through October 31 with these kid-friendly themed festivals, haunted houses (some scary, some not so much) and unique events with a bit of fright and a lot of fun. Some communities also have daytime trick-or-treating at local businesses the weekend before Halloween, which is the perfect way to get toddlers in on the action.

Participating businesses give away treats for kids in costumes at this annual daytime Halloween event. There will also two kid zones with treat bag decorating, photo booths and contests. Stick around for the dog costume parade at 1 pm in Garden Square.

Halloween in Clarkson Village
Mississauga’s lovely Clarkson Village has hosted a Halloween event since 1976. Enjoy the bouncy castles and slides, roaming entertainers, face painting, and refreshments, plus trick-or-treating at local businesses.

Halton Region Halloween Events
Milton, Oakville, and Burlington host a flurry of interesting Halloween happenings for families, including fun on the farm and at the Royal Botanical Gardens, spooky streetcar rides, and two of the best haunted houses in the GTA.
Harvest Festival
Wagon rides along the Corn Trail, tube slides, an animal barn, straw bale jumping, a singing chicken show, Spooky Boo Barn (kid-friendly), and spider web climber are some of the fall-fun and Halloween attractions at this festival that takes place throughout October. Food and a farm market are on site.

Solingate Manor Halloween House
Oakville resident Todd Wirtz has hosted this haunted house in his own yard for more than 20 years. It’s designed to appeal to kids of any age who can handle a wee bit of a fright—and it’s not at all gory. Expect animatronic scarecrows, glowing skulls, smoking cauldrons, talking gargoyles, and other spooky sights.

The Great Pumpkin Trail

Milton Haunted House
This haunted house at Milton Mall is one of the biggest and best haunted-house events around, with more than 700 square feet of rooms and tunnels. It’s fun for all ages, with the truly scary haunted house for older kids (who aren’t easily spooked), teens, and grown-ups; and face painting, and more tame Halloween activities for kids. Funds raised support the Milton District Hospital Foundation.

Safe Trick or Treat
Skip the door-to-door on Halloween and head to Eastgate Square in Stoney Creek for safe and warm indoor trick-or-treating. This event is designed for ages 12 and under. Mystery prizes will be given away throughout the evening.
