World Migratory Bird Day: Bird Banding Workshop

May is an important month in the migration of birds to and through Southern Ontario. Mountsberg Conservation Area invites you to come out and learn about bird banding, an important program of wild bird population study that takes place all over the world. You will see how the birds are captured, how specific information about each bird is gathered and recorded, and then take part in their release back to the wild.

For more bird fun, you can take in on one of the park’s Bird of Prey shows (offered at 12:00 pm and 2:00 pm) or hike through Swallowville to see Mountsberg’s resident colony of nesting tree swallows. The Wildlife Walkway offers a gentle stroll to a viewing platform of the Mountsberg reservoir, a refuge for many species of waterfowl, including ducks, geese, swans, and cormorants, as well wading birds such as herons and bitterns. Mountsberg is a bird lover’s paradise!
