Opera for kids? Yes! Shoestring Opera creates and performs age-appropriate adaptations that introduce opera to children in a lively and entertaining way. They use modern English to create engaging narratives that are accessible, relevant, and fun.
The Schoolyard Carmen, featuring Bizet’s lively music and flamenco dancing, follows the story of a young girl named Carmen, a newcomer to this country. We see her adjusting to a new school in a new place. When the cool kid tries to bully her, she embraces her independent spirit and stands up to him.
Recommended for children in Grades 1–8, but all ages welcome.
