Jane Jacobs was a writer and urban activist, and a resident of Toronto. A firm believer in the importance of local residents having input into how their neighbourhoods develop, Jacobs encouraged people to familiarize themselves with the places where they live, work, and play – by walking their streets and parks. Jane’s Walk is an annual, international festival of free, citizen-led walking conversations where participants can share stories, discover things they never knew about their communities, and connect with their neighbours.
Numerous walks are taking place throughout Toronto on May 4-6. Topics include urban planning, local history, urban wildlife, native plants, walking with young kids, and more. You can see the full list of planned Toronto walks online.
