About FOCUS School of Film and Theatre
FOCUS School of Theatre, Arts and Filmmaking (Film School for Children and Youth) is a non-profit children and youth organization working in the fields of film, arts, and education. It provides cost-saving learning opportunities for children and youth to explore sustained experiences of established filmmakers/artists, to build self confidence, to acquire knowledge and skills, and to create their own works of art in photography, animation, music video, documentary and live-action filmmaking.
Through its creative activities—camps, classes, workshops, field trips, and film shoots being offered in East York, High Park, North York, Forest Hill, Vaughan, and Aurora—FOCUS School connects children and young people with different backgrounds on various levels, artistically, emotionally, creatively, and socially, making local communities stronger and more successful.
As a Toronto International Film Festival Jump Cuts Young Filmmakers Showcase finalists and winners (2013–2018), FOCUS strongly believes that arts education, and particularly film/media education, plays one of the most important roles in promoting children and youth’s well-being. It allows students to attain great results, acquire necessary skills, freely express their own vision, and grow as people.
