Canada’s largest amusement park, Canada’s Wonderland is home to some of the world’s largest and fastest roller coasters and thrill rides and a 20-acre water park, Splash Works. Among the more than 200 attractions are two family-friendly kids’ areas, KidZville and Planet Snoopy, with more than 25 rides, Peanuts characters, and other live entertainment.
The regular season is late May through early October, though the park is open for special events other times of the year. Events and festivals during the year include Celebration Canada in June/July, Oktoberfest, Camp Spooky, and Halloween Haunt in October; and (new in 2019) WinterFest in November, and more.
Rides and Attractions
Canada’s Wonderland first opened in 1981. It has 17 roller coasters and more than 200 rides overall that range from kiddie coasters and bumper cars to the Drop Tower, a slingshot ride, a dark coaster, the nation’s largest roller coaster, Leviathan and the Yukon Striker, the world’s fastest, longest, and tallest “dive roller coaster”.
For little kids, KidZfest is a highlight, featuring street performers, a foam pit, and special visits from characters including Thomas & Friends, Bob the Building, PAW Patrol, Dora the Explorer, Marvel superheroes, and others.
Splash Works water park has attractions for all ages, including Lakeside Lagoon with slides and pools for young children, the Pumphouse water playground, a lazy river, and thrill-seeking rides like the Muskoka Plunge and Black Hole dark water slide.
What’s New in 2019
The park’s newest attraction for 2019 is the Yukon Striker: the fastest, longest, and tallest dive coaster in the world. The ride begins high above the park’s skyline, hangs over a 90-degree drop, then dives 245 feet down into an underwater tunnel, reaching speeds of 130km/h, then soars through four dynamic inversions, including a complete 360-degree loop.
The new WinterFest event, beginning in November, magically transforms the park into a winter wonderland with spectacular holiday lights and décor, world-class live entertainment, savoury treats and fanciful experiences like ice skating on Snowflake Lake, and much more.
