Great Conversations: From Peppermints to Pit Vipers

Event Details

Our senses enable us to interpret and experience the world in which we live. Sensory systems are fine-tuned by evolution to detect signals that are most relevant to an animal’s lifestyle and environment. How do spices and snakes help us understand this important sensory process while generating new ideas for basic research and drug development?

In this, the last in a four-part, thought-provoking speaker series featuring leading global experts in science and technology, Dr. David Julius discusses these topics and more. Julius, an elected member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences as well as the National Academy of Science, holds numerous awards including the Prince of Asturias Award in Technical and Scientific Research and a Shaw Prize in Life Sciences and Medicine.

His presentation is followed by a one-on-one conversation with a moderator and a Q&A session with the audience. Tickets are $20, which includes access to Inventorium hands-on learning space. Parking is $5.
