World Migratory Bird Day

Event Details

World Migratory Bird Day (WMBD) is a global event celebrating the migration of birds between their nesting grounds in North America and their wintering grounds in Central and South America. 2018 marks the 19th year that the Toronto Zoo will be celebrating WMBD. Come out and see informative displays set up by various bird-related organizations at the Conservation Connection Centre (just outside the Indo-Malaya Pavilion) from 9:00  am to 4:00 pm. Spotting scopes and interpretive guides will be stationed at Weston Pond in the Canadian Domain to help visitors learn to identify local birds. Visitors will be encouraged to take a peek at the Zoo’s Motus tower (installed on top of the First Aid Centre), which is a collaborative research network using coordinated, automated radio telemetry arrays to study movements of migratory animals. Motus is a program of Bird Studies Canada in partnership with Acadia University and collaborating researchers and organizations. All activities free with regular Zoo admission.

In conjunction with the Rouge National Urban Park (RNUP), guided bird-watching tours will take place in the RNUP. Tours will be free. Watch for registration details to come.
