Peep peep! Everyone’s favourite storybook steam engine chugs into the Toronto area this summer, arriving at the York-Durham Heritage Railway in August for the Day Out With Thomas—The Steam Team Tour 2019. This is a unique opportunity for little train lovers to climb aboard a coach pulled by a life-size working replica of Thomas the Tank Engine for a 25-minute train ride!

What Is Day Out With Thomas?

In addition to the main event—riding the rails with Thomas—highlights of each adventure include photo ops with Thomas and Sir Topham Hatt, the Controller of the Railway, and a visit to the Imagination Station, where kids can re-create their own stories with Thomas, Percy, James, Emily, and other friends at the train tables; get a temporary tattoo of their favourite engine; and build with Thomas Mega Bloks.

Live entertainment rounds out the experience: Thomas videos and stories aboard an actual train car and performances from musicians, a juggler, and a magician, plus a bubble zone, kiddie train ride, hay maze, and jumping castle, and more. Don’t leave without your official Junior Engineer Certificate and checking out exclusive Day Out With Thomas gifts not available in stores.

Note that Day Out With Thomas sells out each year, so be sure to buy your tickets “right on time” to avoid “confusion and delay”!

Dates & Tickets

Day Out With Thomas takes place over two weekends: August 9–11 and 16–18 at the Uxbridge Train Station (19 Railway Street, Uxbridge). There are ten departure times each day. Tickets are $25 + HST and TicketWeb fee. Buy tickets online.

The York-Durham Heritage Railway offers additional themed family train rides throughout the year, including the brand-new Winnie’s Train Festival on July 7 (yes, as in Winnie-the-Pooh!), Fall Teddy Bear Day in September, the Halloween Train in October, and the Santa Train in late November/early December.
