With nine whole weeks of summer vacation this year, there’s plenty of time for some family vacations as well as the kids trying out great new activities and camps.

We’ve rounded up some of our west end summer camps in Toronto. Here’s to summer!

True North Sports Camps

True North Sports Camps believes in the power and benefits of sports in child development. They offer outstanding instruction in baseball and multi-sport at Etobicoke’s Lambton Kingsway Park, with an emphasis on sportsmanship, fair play and teamwork. Plus, these camps are suitable from the rookie all the way to the experienced MVP.

Royal Conservatory of Music Summer Camps

From a budding musician to Mozart himself, there’s a wonderful and level-appropriate camp for your kiddo. Instrument Exploration camp lets campers as young as age 4 try out their chops on a variety of instruments. Or, if the camper has already specialized, a week at camp offers an opportunity to refine those skills. A camp devoted to the Gruffalo and one to International Music are also neat themes that might entice the campers. Half- and full-day options are available for the strings program.

Roseneath Theatre Summer Camps

Kids just love to act, make costumes and props, and try their hand at script writing. All that self-expression and performance is great for their creativity and self-esteem. Campers will work on and perform a theatrical presentation every week, rounded out with daily trips to parks and splash pads.

Harbourfront Centre Canoe and Kayak Camps

On the water is the place to be for the summer, and these canoe, kayak and stand-up paddleboard (SUP) camps are perfect for kids. They’ll learn the art of getting places via their own steam and have a blast exploring the Toronto Islands. Crafts, nature walks and fun games keep the kids active and outdoors.

GTA Photography Summer Camps

For junior photography buffs who have outgrown the myriad features on the smartphone camera, it’s time to enter the world of DSLR and video! These camps will teach them everything they need to know about how to take stunning photos with “real” cameras. The days are complemented with outdoor, active exploration. No camera? No problem. There’s a low-cost rental available for the camp week. Get ready for your close-up!

All Fired Up Summer Camps

Get ready to get creative with fired arts including ceramics, clay and glass fusing. Then cool off with some mixed media (inks, acrylics, paper mache, watercolour) and swimming (for campers aged 7 and up). It’s a great way for budding artists to learn many different techniques and create, create, create. Cost includes all materials, optional early drop-off, Friday pizza lunch and taxes.

Mayfair West Sports, Swim and Tennis Camps

The great facilities at Mayfair West lend themselves to great summer sports camps! Maybe your little one is a budding tennis ace who will develop their skills on the tennis court. Or perhaps summer is the time to brush up on swim skills or all-around sport. No matter the preference, there’s a camp that will support and encourage the kiddos.

STEAMLabs Summer Camps

How does a summer full of discovering the innermost workings of robots, video games, and Minecraft sound? All while learning code, as well as other principles of STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics)? Pretty amazing, right? Teens might take on learning how to design video games while a specialty program for girls focuses on robotics. It’s all about the STEM and maker movement, which is cutting edge and perfect for the kiddos interested in that world.

Art Works Art School Summer Camps

Cartooning, anime, a Harry Potter theme—art is such a great outlet for kids to express, explore, and dabble. They’ll adore this art school and learn a ton about various artists and styles without even realizing it’s educational. Batik, mask making, and getting to experience art outdoors add to an impressive offering.

Lori Pearlstein’s Playworks Creative Camps

It’s all about the improv, the stage, and the performance with these camps that support self-esteem and confidence through acting—along with some typical camp activities like crafts and sports. Creative camp will have kiddos break out of their shell or hone already impressive performance skills and will end the summer on a high note.

Humber Arboretum Nature Camps

The kids can take in some forest bathing and nature education at these camps at the Humber Arboretum based out of the Centre for Urban Ecology. The true setting for these camps, however, is the great outdoors. Kids will splash, get muddy, learn about plants, animals and the environment, and come home beaming. Added bonus: mindfulness, making for calmer and happier kids all around.

Power Soccer Summer Camps

From Minecraft designer to Lego Robotics creator, there are so many wonderful different types of thinking developed at Brick Works academy. And that’s all balanced out with a minimum of 1.5 hours outside time every day, so they won’t miss the gorgeous weather. These are some seriously mad skillz being fostered at camp today.
