Reviewing as a (former) employee, not a customer: Extremely unprofessionally run and awful treatment of employees. I would give this company zero stars if I could.

I worked as a Disney Princess for children’s parties in my hometown, then moved away for university and looked for a similar job. Moving away, I no longer had access to a vehicle, and TikiBoo said they “offered transportation” (more on that later) so I applied there and was hired.

My first shift, I was under the impression I would be getting a drive to the party, but instead I was instructed to bus almost two hours to the destination (and back). I met my supervisor at the bus stop and she drove me the approx. 5 mins from there to the party. The party was supposed to be an hour, and ended up being an hour and 45 mins, which is not only unfair to me, but potentially to the customer as well. It was not clear whether my supervisor intended to pay me for the overtime, and either way, it’s not fair to keep an employee for longer than the agreed upon time without notice, especially without paying them. To be clear: between getting to the destination and back, the party, and the overtime, I spent over five hours, and it seemed like I was going to be paid for only one hour of work.

Now, here is the really horrible part.
I was scheduled for two shifts that day, one in the morning and one in the evening. A very close friend of mine at the time from my hometown had been struggling with cancer for about a year and a half. About five minutes before my morning shift started, I received a text message from my friend’s mom saying she was not going to make it, and that she had either hours or days left to live. I knew she wasn’t doing well, but the fact that she was terminal (and had days at most to live) was unexpected and devastating news. It was far too late to cancel my morning shift, so I got through it and as soon as I got home I texted my supervisor and explained that I didn’t think I would be able to be an enthusiastic party entertainer that evening, and explained the situation. Her response, (in her exact words, other than correcting for typos and lack of punctuation/grammatical errors,) was:

“I read your entire text for the first time and realized how pathetic you sounded. You send death as an excuse not to do a party or you never really wanted to do it in the first place. You’re acting like you’re the only performer I have. There’s so many like you and better. You have not done me a disservice, don’t worry. All the best to you in whatever your mindset leads you to do. Bye bye! Fyi the party was a huge success without you. (smiley emoji, thumbs up emoji.)”

I was not paid for my morning shift.

Horrible company run by a horrible lady. There are so many better, more professional princess/party entertainer companies who care about their employees. Don’t use TikiBoo.
