Family Day Clay Activity: Dragons and Pheonixes

Event Details

Did you know that images of dragons can be found in many cultures, but that they originated in the East? In Egypt, China, and Japan, the symbol of the dragon represented the Emperor. In China, Persia, and Phoenicia (Ancient Lebanon), the symbol of the Phoenix, a birdlike creature, represented rebirth and renewal.

Celebrate Asian Heritage Month on Sunday, May 19, in the Gardiner Museum’s Laura Dinner and Richard Rooney Community Clay Studio to make dragons and phoenixes out of clay.

Family Day activities take place every Sunday 11 am–3 pm, and are included free with admission. Admission is free for visitors 18 and under every day! (Visitors under 12 years old must be accompanied by an adult and each accompanying adult must purchase general admission.)
