Take your little monsters out to celebrate the season at family-friendly Halloween events in York and Durham. Find Halloween fun for young kids in Whitby, Oshawa, Ajax, Uxbridge, Vaughan, and Stouffville.
Many of these Halloween parties, haunted houses, mazes, and farm festivals are more fun than scary, but any attractions that may be too much for younger children are clearly indicated. Events are listed in chronological order.
Camp Spooky at Canada’s Wonderland
All the fun with none of the fright! Check out the scare-free mazes, with two to choose from (enchanted garden and hay bale). Then it’s on to the foam pits, trick-or-treating, pumpkin patch and more. Camp Spooky is included with amusement park admission, so you can enjoy all the rides, too.

Pumpkinville
One of the first Halloween events of the season takes place at Greenwood Conservation Area in Ajax. It’s a fall festival and Halloween event rolled into one, with a pumpkin patch, inflatable rides, haunted house, live entertainment, and kids’ activities.

Spirit Walks

Halloween Spooktacular
WindReach Farm, north of Whitby, is a nonprofit dedicated to providing life-changing programs for people with disabilities and for all people. Its annual Halloween party on the farm is an evening of spooky wagon rides, a petting zoo, crafts, and a haunted sensory trail, followed by a barn dance until 9 pm. Dinner and beverages will be available for purchase. Bring a flashlight!

Family Fright Fiesta
Head to Georgina’s Pioneer Village heritage site for a fun kid-friendly Halloween party, with Dan the Music Man, haunted walks, ghoulish games, “Haunted Canada” storytelling, a spooky photo booth, creepy stilt walkers, Halloween face painting, and more. Pick a pumpkin to take home and enjoy treats and prizes, while supplies last.

Halloween Trains
It’s a train ride and a Halloween party all in one. The York-Durham Heritage Railway is all ready for Halloween and wants you to join them. Kids ages 12 and under in costume ride for only $2. There will be entertainment, the chance to see the cool train station in Uxbridge, and goodie bags for the kids. Trips depart both the Uxbridge station and Stouffville GO station.

Halloween Spooktacular at the Vaughan Public Library
The annual Halloween party at the Vaughan Public Library takes place at multiple branches on different days. Drop in for fun kids’ activities and spooky stories.

Trafalgar Haunted Castle
A 19th-century gothic castle building on the campus of the Trafalgar Castle School—an all-girls day and boarding school in Whitby—is the perfect setting for a much-anticipated annual haunted castle experience. Take a ghostly tour with scary surprises. Not recommended for kids under age 10. Reservations are a must. Proceeds support Simcoe Hall Settlement House.

Kreepy Kortright
At Woodbridge’s Kortright Centre for Conservation, do the haunted maze, take part in Halloween activities, gather around the campfire, take a frightening forest walk after dark, and see live owls at this event especially for kids ages 10 and under. Advance tickets required.

Scaryfest 2018
Despite the name, this Halloween event at Markham Museum is more fun than frightening and is designed for ages 10 and under. Trick-or-treat on the 25-acre museum grounds, have your fortune told, try some superhero science, and dance at the Monster Bash.

Halloween in the Village
Each year, the Community Safety Village of York Region—an educational miniature village operated by the York Regional Police—opens its gates to the public for a special Halloween event especially for kids ages 12 and under. Trick-or-treat in a safe environment at the 30 scaled-down buildings, play Halloween games, and tour a haunted house—and pick up some safety tips from police officers.

Halloween at the Farm
The final Saturday at Brooks Farms’ Fall Fun Festival is Halloween-themed, with costume parade (12:15 pm), prizes, and Halloween treats, along with all the regular fall farm fun: farm animals, train rides, corn cob blasters, pig races, fun farmyard playground, corn maze, singing chicken show, and more.
