Family Fun

March Break is next week (March 12–20). If you totally forgot and don’t have a March Break camp booked, or haven’t made any plans at all, don’t panic. We are here to help!

Think of this planner as your go-to guide to March Break in Toronto and the GTA, with tons of fun activities, events, and ideas for kids of all ages (and parents, too).

 

Museums and History

ROM Enchanted March Break 
Visit during the day to experience a magical realm full of adventure, exploration and imagination at the ROM’s drop-in program. Kids can get hands-on with natural wonders and serpents at the daily demonstrations. The activities also includes theatre, astronomy, dancing, and taking a Shakespearean selfie.

March Break at Hockey Hall of Fame 
Families get discounted admission March 12–20 at the Hockey Hall of Fame and hours are extended for March Break week. You must print the coupon to get the deal.

March Break at Ontario Science Centre
Hands-on activities for kids of all ages. Tour the exhibit “Circus! The Exhibition,” journey back through the Ice Age to view some of Earth’s largest and most awe-inspiring mammals, and see IMAX films, “cool science” demonstrations, and planetarium shows.

March Family Fun at Scarborough Museum
Celebrate everything green at the Scarborough Museum to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day and the start of spring. Kids will make lawn ornaments to decorate your budding front lawn garden.

Casa Loma’s Imaginary Dream Castle
Let the kids be part of a medieval fantasy at Casa Loma this March Break. Kids can explore the castle with characters from Sesame Street, The Moblees and Lalaloopsie. Activities include face painting, cookie decorating, bouncy castles, and crafting a dream catcher.

Princess Dance Party at Casa Loma
Calling all Princesses and Superheroes! Bring the whole family to Casa Loma for an evening of everything magical and fun, including horse and carriage rides, a princess beauty parlour, a face-painting zone, craft stations, and lots of great food. And, don’t miss out on the Court Jester Dance Party where you can have some fun with your favourite Princesses and Action Heroes. Costumes are welcomed and encouraged!

March ‘Musements at MacKenzie House
Drop in for some Victorian fun! Typeset your name on the 1845 printing press, make a craft to take home, and have a cookie in the historic kitchen.

March Clay Madness at the Gardiner Museum of Ceramic Art
Now is your chance to disconnect from the digital world as a family and get your hands dirty! Clay activity stations will be set up on all four floors of the Museum to help you with your exploration. All ages welcome!

March Break Beach Party
What better way to celebrate March Break than with a beach party at the Bata Shoe Museum? Have some fun in the sun by decorating your own visor and sandal box, playing dress up, taking a selfie with the beachscape, playing games, and more.

March Break Mystery Fun
Black Creek Pioneer Village opens to families for a Sherlock Holmes mystery adventure. Kids find clues and make disguises to track the thieves and solve a crime. Activities in every building on site; and horse-drawn carriage rides are in effect.

Snow Day! March Break at Markham Museum
Who needs sun and sand for March Break when you can explore the wonders of snow? Winter might be over soon, so join the gang at Markham Museum for their interactive drop-in program and explore their new exhibition SNOW.

Expos and Fun Parks

Wizard World Fun Park
Wizard World is an indoor fun fair extravaganza for kids, with stage shows, carnival rides—including a mini-coaster and bumper cars—inflatable jousting and inflatable Kidz Gym, pony rides, exotic petting zoo, and a little tots area for kids under five.

Kidnasium March Break Open House – FREE
Drop in and play in Kidnasium’s fun and colourful gym for free! There will be snacks and refreshments and they will be giving away a free birthday party!

Toronto ComiCon  
This is the event of the season for fans of science fiction, gaming, comics, anime, fantasy, and horror. Meet and hear from comic-book designers, actors from popular TV shows, and sci-fi authors. This 3-day extravaganza is packed with exciting family-friendly activities and celebrities.

March Madness at Fantasy Fair
During March Break week at Fantasy Fair play centre, special events take place each afternoon: clown shows, circus acts, magicians, a live reptile show and more. All day, kids can play on the huge climbing gym with tube slides, ride the carousel, bumper cars, Ferris wheel and other attractions for tots.

Farms, Zoos, Nature Centres, and Parks

March Break at the Toronto Zoo
The Zoo has tons of great activities going on during March Break. The whole family can connect with wildlife conservation at the interactive interpretative stations set up throughout the zoo, and learn how to save and protect animals around the world. You can also visit the newest, and cutest, members of the Zoo family, including the giant panda cubs, lion cubs and polar bear cub. And, for those 5 and older, you can join the Zoo for a Pyjama Party on March 12 or March 19, and spend the night at the zoo (with an adult) and visit the animals before they go to sleep at the overnight program.

March Break at Evergreen Brick Works – FREE
Spend March Break at Evergreen Brick Works and you can discover nature in the city with a jam-packed week of outdoor fun for the whole family. Enjoy some fat bike riding, art workshops, delicious food, and the first ever kids tour!

Family Drop-In at Colborne Lodge
Stop by High Park’s Colborne Lodge for crafts and activities for ages 3 and up. If the weather cooperates, combine it with a zoo to the Jamie Bell Adventure Playground and the High Park Zoo.

Skiing and Snowboarding
Plenty of ski areas have extended hours during March Break and special deals, like the Day Trail Pass Special at Scenic Caves in Collingwood. See our favourite cross-country ski areas and check out downhill ski areas in the GTA.

Ice Skating and Tobogganing
You can’t walk a few blocks in Toronto without finding a skating rink or sledding hill. Check your local community centre for a rink nearby, or try one of these 8 great family ice-skating rinks in Toronto. Libraries and Historic Sites

Legislative Building March Break Program – FREE
Free activities for kids ages 6–10. Dress in parliamentary staff robes, do a scavenger hunt through the historic building, and participate in crafts.

Toronto Public Library March Break Programs
Free March Break programs are scheduled for branches throughout the GTA. Some examples of what’s on: movies, puppet shows, craft workshops, and drumming circles. Check local branches for programs and times.

March Break at Fort York
Looking for a day of adventure during March Break? Just bring your family down to Fort York National Historic Site! At the authentic War of 1812 fort, children will have fun trying soldiers’ drill classes, officers’ sword drill, and dressing up in costumes. Sample treats from the 1826 historic kitchen pick up a Kids’ Guide to Fort York and have fun finding clues to complete games and puzzles throughout your tour.

Maple Syrup Festivals

March is Maple Syrup season, so take advantage of all the tasty festivals happening in the GTA. Try some freshly made syrup, watch the sap being boiled down, visit some farm animals, go on a wagon ride, and join in for lots of other family-friendly activities.

March Break at TIFF
This March Break, you can watch DreamWorks Animation’s most treasured and influential family classics on the big screen at TIFF Kids Presents: Treasures from DreamWorks Animation. From How to Train Your Dragon, to the beautifully designed Rise of the Guardians to the hilarious, Academy-Award winning Shrek, and much more. Or check out the fifth edition of the award-winning digiPLaySpace exhibition, where kids can play with some awesome interactive installations, including multi-player videogames, virtual reality, Olympic-sized stop-motion sports, green screen escapades, robotic and circuit building activities in a DIY maker space, and more from acclaimed Canadian and international artists.
