About Rideau Hall

Come see the historic residence and workplace of Canada’s Governor General! Built in 1838, Rideau Hall has been the home of every governor general since Confederation. Tours of the residence last 45 minutes, giving visitors an opportunity to view various state rooms decorated with a collection of Canadian art and furniture. The grounds are also open for exploration, and feature some “uniquely Canadian” landscaping elements across 32 hectares of lawns, woods, gardens, and winding paths. You’ll even find an outdoor skating rink that was built in 1872!
