Long Weekend Must-Haves

Summer Fun

It’s hard to believe that it’s here already, but it’s the August long weekend. We like to stick closer to home, and avoid the horrible traffic jams that slowly make their way towards cottage country. Since we love making lists, we thought we’d show you our list of necessities for a fun summer weekend. What’s on your list…?

1. Bathing Suits
One for everyone (even mom and dad!) can be found at Old Navy. Inexpensive, cute suits that will last for at least the rest of the summer and keep the kidlets cool and you looking…well…quite honestly? Hot (sizzle sizzle).

Girls Ruffled-Heart Swimsuit, $18.

2. Water Play Toys
Water toys are so important for long, hot summer weekends. Get a few, fill them up and watch the kids run around the yard or the park, having the best time ever (without much time or effort on your part). Head to Canadian Tire for some great water play toys.

Gorgon Water Blaster Gun, $25. Available at Canadian Tire.

3. Patio Dishes
Stock up on plastic (but not disposable!) picnic and patio dishware for the weekend. Non-breakable means no worries when the kids want to drink lemonade while they’re running around squirting each other. Pier 1 has some great options for acrylic dishes that look nice enough to use all year around, inside and out.
Hammered Drink Ware – Blue, $5 each. Available at Pier 1.

4. Sunscreen
We know it’s an obvious one but you’d be surprised how many long weekends we’ve started without a supply. Along with good sunscreen make sure you have hats, sunglasses and light pullovers for everyone. Sunburn is not something you want to have as a reminder of this long weekend.

Badger Baby Sunscreen with Chamomile and Calendula, $20. Available at Well.ca.

5. Recipes
Food should really be at the top of the list. From great barbecue recipes to fantastic drinks and desserts, we know this weekend will be filled with amazing food. Who wants to come over for our famous grilled pineapple kabobs?

LCBO.ca – a great resource for food and drink recipes.
