Keeping the wee ones out of trouble for a whole week is rather daunting compared to keeping them occupied for the small amount of time between school and dinner. Here are a few great, free or cheap things to do with them in Vancouver over the break.

March Break sneaks up on us every year. We think about it in January and start making plans and lists of plans and ideas. Then all of a sudden it’s mid-March and there are no spaces left in camps and nothing for our kids to do (other than hang out with us!). So we needed things to do with our kidlets in Alberta that won’t break the bank but will allow everyone to have some fun and stay busy while off school for at least a week.

There is a lot of stuff to do in Calgary and Edmonton during March Break with the kidlets. Here is just a sampling of the many free and/or inexpensive things you can do this year.

If you want the ultimate ski vacation, Whistler in the place to be in Canada. Tourism Whistler has some great packages for staying and skiing, starting from $95 per person, per night.

West Coast Sightseeing has some great tours including Vancouver city highlights, walking tours, the Capilano Bridge, Granville Island and more. Search online for coupon codes to get a certain amount off your booked excursion.

Empire Theatres is offering toonie matinees during Spring Break. Check out the Esplanade and Guildwood locations for more details.

Chapters-Indigo has some great free events planned at their store every day of March Break at 11am, including celebrating Dr. Suess’s birthday, a Lego party and much more.  You need to sign up to participate, by contacting your local store.

The Vancouver police museum is an “arresting experience” where children under 6 get in for free.

For free or a suggested $2 donation, you can visit the Vancouver observatory, where you can see the moon, planets and comets through their powerful telescopes.

Visit the Greater Victoria Public library for a list of spring break events, including some great DIY crafts.

And of course, don’t forget about all the places you can go skating and skiing in Vancouver.
